Main research areas
- Anxiety and stress: In anxiety models it reduced tension and enhanced the effect of diazepam.
- GABA system: Changes the activity of genes linked to the main inhibitory neurotransmitter.
- Enkephalins: Slows the enzymes that break down natural stress-dampening substances.
- Immunity: As a tuftsin derivative it influences immune markers and cytokines.
Preparing a stock solution
Preparing a stock solution
The vial contains 5 mg. Dissolving it in 3.0 ml of solvent gives a stock solution with a concentration of 1.67 mg/ml, i.e. 1.67 µg in every microlitre. In the laboratory the solvent used is sterile or bacteriostatic water, or a buffer according to the method. Add the solvent slowly down the inside wall of the vial and let the contents dissolve with gentle swirling, not shaking – shaking can damage the peptide. Divide the stock solution into aliquots and freeze them; repeated thawing reduces the content. The reconstitution calculator works out conversions for other volumes and dilutions using C1V1 = C2V2.
Limitations and research notes
- Selank is not a registered medicinal product in the European Union.
- Controlled studies outside Russia are limited.
- Published work comes mainly from Russian institutions.
- The solution is sensitive to repeated freezing; store at 2–8 °C.
Selank is studied in research mainly for one reason: in anxiety models it reduced tension in a similar way to classic anxiolytics, but without the drowsiness and sedation typical of them. Like Semax, it was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and belongs to the synthetic neuropeptides.
Tuftsin: an immune peptide as the template
The template for Selank is tuftsin – the short peptide Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg, which the body produces from antibodies and which activates immune cells. Tuftsin breaks down quickly, however, so scientists added the same stabilising Pro-Gly-Pro tail that Semax has. The result was the seven-amino-acid Selank peptide, which keeps its link to the immune system and also acts on the nervous system. The graphic above shows how closely Selank is related to Semax.
GABA and enkephalins: how Selank calms
The peptide influences two systems the brain uses to calm down. A study by Volkova et al. (2016) showed that it changes the activity of genes linked to transmission of GABA – the main inhibitory neurotransmitter, which common anxiolytics also act on.[3] Older work by Zozulya et al. (2001) found that the peptide slows the enzymes that break down enkephalins – natural substances that dampen stress and pain – so their effect lasts longer.[1]
What anxiety studies show
In a study by Kasian et al. (2017) in rats in a model of chronic stress, it enhanced the anti-anxiety effect of diazepam.[4] Russian clinical work in people with anxiety-asthenic disorders describes, besides calming, changes in immune markers such as cytokines – a link to its origin in tuftsin.[2]

Selank in Russian medicine
In Russia the peptide has been registered as a medicine since 2009 – 0.15% nasal drops intended for treating anxiety disorders and neurasthenia. Clinical work there compared it with benzodiazepines and described a similar anti-anxiety effect without drowsiness, coordination problems or the development of dependence. These are, however, studies with small numbers of participants that nobody outside Russia has yet repeated.
Memory and attention
Besides calming, its effect on learning is also studied. Animal studies describe better retention of tasks under stressful conditions, which relates to the fact that stress and anxiety impair memory. That is why in nootropic research Selank is often studied in combination with Semax – one peptide targets calm, the other performance.
Tolerability
Published work reports good tolerability. It comes mainly from Russian institutions, however, and has not been independently repeated outside Russia; you will find a summary of limitations in the Limitations and research notes section.
Selank: preparing the solution
Selank is supplied as a lyophilized powder. A 5 mg vial is reconstituted with 3.0 ml of bacteriostatic water, giving a solution with a concentration of about 1.67 mg/ml, i.e. 1.67 µg in every microlitre. The reconstitution calculator works out conversions for other volumes and dilutions.
Selank price and availability
The Selank price per 5 mg vial is shown above; buying 2 vials gives you 10% off, 3 or more 15% off. It is often ordered together with Semax. Selank comes with a safety data sheet, and the lab report is available on request. You will find details on the mechanisms in the article Selank: mechanism of action and biological effects of the peptide.
In Russia, Selank is registered as a medicine; it is not approved in the EU. Most data come from Russian institutions and animal models. The product is intended solely for research.
Questions about Selank
What is Selank?
A synthetic heptapeptide Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro. It is based on the immune peptide tuftsin, to which a stabilising Pro-Gly-Pro tail is attached. It was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
How does Selank work?
It changes the activity of genes linked to GABA transmission and slows the enzymes that break down enkephalins. In anxiety models it therefore reduced tension without marked sedation.
Does Selank cause drowsiness?
In studies it was described as an anxiolytic without sedation, i.e. without the drowsiness typical of benzodiazepines. Individually, a feeling of relaxation or tiredness may occur.
What is the difference between Selank and Semax?
Selank comes from tuftsin and is studied mainly for calm, stress and GABA. Semax comes from ACTH and is studied for memory, attention and BDNF. Both share the Pro-Gly-Pro tail and are given as a nasal spray.
How do I prepare a Selank nasal spray?
Dissolve the 5 mg vial in 3.0 ml of bacteriostatic water and pour it into the spray bottle. One 0.10 ml spray contains about 167 mcg, and the vial lasts for roughly 30 sprays.
How much does Selank cost?
You can see the price per 5 mg vial in the purchase panel. Buying 2 vials gives you 10% off, 3 or more 15% off, and shipping is free over CZK 3,000.

Peptides in transit
We ship lyophilized peptides in glass vials by standard shipping; they do not need refrigeration. Short temperature fluctuations in transit do not reduce their quality, and the lyophilized form stays stable for several weeks even in summer temperatures.
Storing lyophilized peptides
Store lyophilized peptides in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. We generally recommend these conditions:
- Room temperature (15–25 °C): up to 3 months
- In the fridge (2–8 °C): up to 6 months
- In the freezer (−20 °C and below): 3–5 years (recommended for long-term storage)
After taking the vial out of the fridge or freezer, let it warm to room temperature.
Storing reconstituted peptides
Peptide solutions are generally less stable after reconstitution than the lyophilized form, so keep them cold whenever possible. We generally recommend these conditions:
- Room temperature (15–25 °C): not recommended long term
- In the fridge (2–8 °C): usually 4–8 weeks
- In the freezer (−20 °C and below): up to 3–4 months
To keep the peptide intact, avoid repeated freezing and thawing, which can speed up its degradation.
Important:
Most manufacturers recommend using reconstituted peptides stored at 2–8 °C within 4 weeks. This recommendation is deliberately cautious and may not reflect the actual chemical stability of every peptide. Actual stability depends strongly on the sequence and formulation of the specific peptide, so stick to the recommended period and keep the solution cold and dark.
